Health Alert: Measles

The Dominican University Student Health Center has been closely following the multi-state measles outbreak to ensure the 健康 and safety of our students and our community. At last report, there are 18 states affected, including New York.

Current recommendations by the CDC are to exclude people without evidence of immunity to measles from colleges affected by a measles outbreak. If vaccinated within 72 hours of exposure, students can be readmitted to school. The period of exclusion for those that remain unvaccinated should be for at least 21 days after the onset of symptoms in the last person with measles at the affected college.

In light of the recent outbreak, we urge all Dominican University students, including visiting students, to get vaccinated against measles if it has not already been done. If you are unsure or have any questions, please check with the Student Health Center by calling 845-848-7918.

If you cannot confirm whether or not you have been vaccinated, it is safe to get another vaccine and there is no increased risk of side effects.
